For the third time in a row, Bucharest City Hall in partnership with creart – the Centre for Creation, Art and Tradition of the Municipality of Bucharest organizes Bucharest Christmas Market, the official Christmas fair of Bucharest in two symbolical places of our Capital: the University Square (statues on the esplanade) and Cismigiu Gardens.

Beginning with Saturday, 29th of November, between 10 am and 10 pm, a whole month of the official Christmas fair of Bucharest will be opened to everyone willing to share the winter spirit with their loved ones and enjoy traditional music shows, carols, concerts performed by renowned bands, traditions and customs from all over the country, pointing out these festive days.

On the same day, on St Andrew’s Eve the Christmas lights will be switched on, while the city’s boulevards will be adorned with millions of light bulbs.

Bucharest Christmas Market is organized every year and its first edition has been already included in the international network of the most significant Christmas fairs in Europe – „Christmas Markets” ,becoming an official part of this network. This event is addressed to a universal audience and admission is free for all visitors.

One hundred Christmas themed Cottages

One hundred Bucharest Christmas Market cottages will convert Bucharest central area into a Magical Winter Holidays Village. The traditional Christmas tree, 16 meters tall will be decorated with lollipops, bells, multicolored light bulbs and over 14 tones of savin ornaments.

Hence, during an entire month, Bucharest Christmas Market will share traditional items, painted ceramics, carved wood, icons and embroidered cloths, popular costumes and traditional masks, wooden toys and musical instruments, manually painted Christmas balls, festive wreaths and scented candles to all the beauty lovers attending this event.

Visitors can taste traditional Romanian dishes, cakes, mulled wine, ginger bread, steamy pies, marmalade, comfiture, honey, various syrups and many more. They will also find original presents for their loved ones.

Some of the craftsmen attending this event will create artistic items and adornments on the spot, as these authentic workshops will give anyone the possibility to rediscover the beauty of Romanian traditional art and customs.

Surprises for the little ones

Kids from everywhere are expected to come and play while meeting Santa Claus at the University Square Christmas fair. A special cottage will host a meeting with the elves and fairy characters until Santa arrives. Kids can send letters to the Santa Claus mailbox.

Artistic Programme

A series of shows will take place on the stage of Bucharest Christmas Market and famous artists join the same stage: traditional music bands, Kids’s music bands, groups of carol singers, country’s choirs as well as renowned musical bands. Various artists will perform on the stage such as: Mandinga, Connect-R, Lora, Monica Anghel and Nico, Cornelia and Lupu Rednic, Floarea Calotă, Sofia Vicoveanca, Gheorghe Turda, LaLa Band, Ducu Bertzi, Gheorghe Gheorghiu, Simbol chorus,Vasile Șeicaru, Loredana and Horia Brenciu. This year novelty is represented by a concert dedicated to Romania’s National Day, on December 1st.

“This campaign aims to help SOS Kids’s Villages Romania building a future for the little ones. They should feel what it means to be at home, they should dream beautiful dreams and always know that somebody is thinking about them somewhere. Let’s give away moments of our life for a human life!” our General Mayor, Mr Sorin Oprescu stated. The SOS Christmas cottage will host a “Christmas wishful tree” decorated with little magical stars where Kids could send their wishes to Santa Claus. Any visitor willing to get involved in this campaign may choose a little star from the Christmas tree and make a donation for the disadvantaged Kids assisted by SOS Kids’s Villages Romania. The City Municipality offered a Christmas cottage to the Association SOS Kids’s Villages Romania at Bucharest Christmas Market located on University Square where visitors can buy this story book.

Between 29th of November and 28th of December 2014, Bucharest City Hall in partnership with creart will organize the third edition of Bucharest Christmas Market in University Square and Cismigiu Gardens. For a whole month, all visitors are welcomed with a hundred fairy cottages, traditional music shows, carols, concerts performed by famous artists, Santa’s cottage, a fairytale carrousel and many other special surprises.
